One of the unfortunate by-products of a severe economic downturn is an increase in crime. Thankfully, Americans haven’t seen true desperation yet on the streets of American – by desperation, I’m speaking mostly of people who lack basic necessities like food & water – currently, we just have Americans who lack money. There is a big difference.
The other thing to remember is that during the economic crisis, tax revenues and funding for local municipalities starts to dry up big time. As such, we see a decrease in funding for departments like local police. The combination is not a good one. We’re already seeing this here today.
In the news recently were many reports of criminals running wild in East Saint Louis because of this nasty combination that we’re speaking of here. Massive police layoffs plus increased criminal activity.
Furthermore, it’s important to realize that widescale riots and panics DO in fact occur in America under the right circumstances. This type of violent civil unrest is not confined to third world countries. For examples, search YouTube for videos on the L.A. Riots in the 90′s or on videos of New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina. It’s pretty crazy.
In these scenarios outlined, you better be prepared to defend yourselves and your property.
While I’m not going to go into great detail here regarding what kind of weapons you should or shouldn’t own, just put it this way. You need some kind of protection. I like the idea of owning a handgun or two as well as a shotgun for self-defense. Make you sure you stock up on enough ammunition also to last you a few years in case there is a shortage or there is legislation enacted that prevents easy access to ammo.
